Smoking Loon Cabernet Sauvignon

Smoking Loon Cabernet Savignon, 2005, California
The boys from Three Loose Screws are at it again, this time with a fuming fowl. The recipe for success with these guys is straight forward: pair a good wine with a marketable name and eye-catching label and you’ve got a winner. In this case, we’ve got a smoking loon, and quite literally, you’ll find a bird with a cigar hanging from its beak on the label. In place of tasting notes on the back, we’re given some nonsensical story about a smoking loon written in back-country drawl.

The bottle definitely makes an impression. But the wine, you ask? It’s pretty darn good — a hearty and tasty Cab that might not knock anyone’s socks off, but is sure to be a crowd pleaser. So go ahead and buy a bottle for your next dinner party — you’ll be getting a solid wine and a conversation piece!
